These books were originally published by Blackie and Son, years ago when my books were published by the same publisher I remember looking at the original artwork. I don't think they realized just how valuable these paintings turned out to be! Those were the days before licensing became huge.
Sometimes people would get in touch and say that they had modeled for a particular painting as Cicely used children she knew. Who knows, maybe the Lavender fairy or one her descendants is reading this?
They are a bit sweet for my taste but well drawn on the whole. I never thought much about models until I read an article on Brian Froud and his use of local Dartmoor girls.
